|At Jazz Camp, Band Camp for Grownups, you will be joining one of our 8 bands. If you join one of our 3 big bands, you will be playing in a section with other players, playing the music of Basie, Ellington, Kenton, Marsalis, Gillespie, McConnell and more. If you join one of our smaller bands, the octet or nonet, you will be playing great charts by the masters. The Bands Rehearse every day in the morning and the evening each for 2 1/2 hours. You will also be participating in section rehearsals every afternoon for about an hour.Jerry Bergonzi|
Our saxophone guest artist is Jerry Bergonzi, a professor at New England Conservatory of Music, Dave Brubeck alumnus and author of 6 books on jazz improvisation. When Michael Brecker was asked how it felt to be the “king of the saxophone”, he answered, “I don’t know you’d have to ask Jerry Bergonzi”, (From the Boston Herald). Jerry teaches our improv classes and does a guest artist stint with the bands. One of the lesser known secrets is that Jerry Bergonzi plays great jazz piano.
As a jazz piano player at Jazz Camp you also can attend our daily improvisation workshop taught by Jerry Bergonzi. Jerry Bergonzi is a world renowned tenor saxophonist, has written 6 books on jazz improv applicable to ALL instruments. His books include, Melodic Structures, Pentatonic Scales, BeBopScales and Jazz Rhythms.
